Since her graduate student days, Evelyn has been a dedicated faculty member of the Vancouver Academy of Music, teaching violin, chamber music, orchestra and technique classes to students of all ages, from Suzuki to graduate level. She originated and taught the Academy’s theory programme for ten years.

Evelyn is one of the original members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. She has served as assistant concertmaster of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, and the Stratford Festival Ensemble. She has performed coast to coast, and toured Korea and China, with groups including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Victoria Symphony, the National Ballet, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Vancouver Baroque Strings, Vancouver Intercultural Orchestra, and touring productions such as Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and Showboat. Evelyn was a long time member of the CBC Radio Orchestra, remounted presently as the National Broadcast Orchestra. She enjoys playing and recording with a wide variety of artists. Highlights include Cecilia Bartoli, James Ehnes, Ray Charles, Michael Buble, Ben Heppner, Page and Plant, Sarah
McLaughlin and Diana Krall.

Evelyn is active as a music festival adjudicator throughout the province. She performs as a soloist and chamber musician for various organizations, including the Health Arts Society, through which she brings music to a large number of seniors’ and health care facilities, a true labour of love.

She has had many award-winning students, some of whom have received medals for examinations and festivals, performed with the Vancouver Symphony and other orchestras, and gone on to prestigious music schools such as Eastman, McGill and the Cleveland Institute. Having raised a musical daughter at the Academy (presently in England performing with the London Symphony Orchestra), Evelyn appreciates the joys and values that music can bring to a child’s life.

A winner of the 2011 Sylva Gelber Music Foundation Award, twenty-five year old cellist Brian Yoon is emerging as a significant young artist in Canada. As a soloist, Brian has been featured in performances with the Vancouver Academy, the University of Ottawa, the Guelph Symphony, and the Ottawa Symphony Orchestras. His performance of the First Shostakovich Concerto at the National Arts Centre was praised by the Ottawa Citizen as an “impressive account” with “exquisite phrasing”.

Brian has been presented in recital by the Agassiz Summer Chamber Music Festival and the Vancouver Women’s Musical Society. In Spring 2012, he will be performing for the Vancouver Cello Club and the Hornby Festival. Last summer, he was invited to take part in the International Cello Festival of Canada in Winnipeg.

Born in South Korea, Brian started music lessons at the age of six. After immigrating to Canada, he continued cello studies with Judith Fraser at the Vancouver Academy of Music, where he was awarded the Certificate in Music Performance. He has attended the international Morningside Music Bridge Program and the NAC’s Young Artists Program, as well as participating in master classes at Banff, Domaine Forget and Orford, led by such eminent cellists as Aldo Parisot, Lynn Harrell, Philippe Muller, Lluis Claret and Laurence Lesser. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Ottawa, where he studied with Paul Marleyn. He is currently completing graduate studies with Desmond Hoebig at Rice University in Houston. Brian will be assuming the position of Principal Cello with the Victoria Symphony in Fall 2012.
